The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) was signed into law December 27, 2020. In total, the CRRSAA authorizes $81.88B in support for education, in addition to the $30.75B former Secretary DeVos expeditiously provided last spring through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan (ARP) on March 11, 2021, a $1.9 trillion federal spending package to address the continuing effects of the COVID pandemic. In the legislation, higher education was allocated $39.6B which will be distributed using the same institutional and student formula as in CRRSAA. Under this Act, Bloomfield College received an additional $3,926,077 that was earmarked for direct emergency financial aid grants to students. What is the ARP Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund that is provided by the federal government?
President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan (ARP) on March 11, 2021, a $1.9 trillion federal spending package to address the continuing effects of the COVID pandemic One section of the ARP established the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund and allocated money to schools to use for emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic.
What can I use ARP Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds for?
Eligible expenses for ARP funding include, but are not necessarily limited to, medical, food, housing, utilities, technology expenses, relocation costs to return home, unexpected childcare, course materials, and other unanticipated expenses included in the student’s cost of attendance.
Additionally, students have the option to use the funds to satisfy an outstanding account balance; to do so, you must complete this form to provide the College consent to apply these funds directly to your balance.
By cashing your check, you are agreeing to use these funds towards these types of expenses.
Am I eligible for ARP funds?
Degree-seeking students enrolled in Spring 2021 or AC-3 2021 are eligible for ARP emergency grants.
I am an international student and not a citizen of the United States – am I eligible for a ARP Grant?
Yes! This is a new modification that is unique to ARP.
I am a DACA/Undocumented student – am I eligible to receive a ARP Grant?
Yes! This is a new modification that is unique to ARP.
I graduated before December 27, 2020 – am I eligible to receive a CRRSAA Grant?
Unfortunately, you must be enrolled during the Spring 2021 semester to be eligible.
How much funding will I be awarded?
Individual student allocations will be determined by the College’s Disbursement Policy.
When will ARP Grants be available and how do I apply?
The College recently received these funds from the Department of Education and is preparing for Disbursement. Eligible students were contacted on May 18, 2021 via email from refunds@bloomfield.edu with a more detailed timeline of distribution and a specific individual grant amount. No further action has been taken
How long before I know if I am awarded?
You will receive an email from refunds@bloomfield.edu with your allocation by June 4, 2021. Please monitor your @bloomfield.edu email accordingly.
How will I receive my Phase I funds?
All Bloomfield College refund payments are now processed through our third-party processor BankMobile. You should have received correspondence from the College and BankMobile in January via a bright green envelope sent to your home regarding signing up at BankMobile and your refund delivery preference.
If you did not receive an envelope please visit BankMobiles: “Need a Code” website.
If you have not signed up with BankMobile prior to June 1st, there will be a delay in receiving your emergency grant.
