Bloomfield College Ranked First in State for Upward Mobility

According to a new study published in the New York Times, Bloomfield College holds the highest success rate among all New Jersey liberal arts colleges and universities in moving students forward in economic standing. The College is also among the nation's top colleges for helping students from low-income families enter the middle and upper class.

Bloomfield College was ranked #1 in the state of New Jersey and #20 nationally in Overall Mobility Index, a statistical analysis that identifies the likelihood colleges and universities help students move up two or more income quintiles.

“This study shows the positive influence colleges with an access mission can have on society. I see no better benchmark for assessing a college’s value than its ability to significantly improve the socioeconomic status of its graduates,” stated Adam Castro, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “About half of our students identify as the first in their family to go to college. To play such a large role in their personal development, and to know the positive influence it will have on opportunities for their children and their children’s children, is incredibly rewarding.”

The study, conducted by the Equality of Opportunity Project, was based on nearly 30 million anonymous tax records.

 “Bloomfield College is both a place for awakening and refuge,” said Richard A. Levao, College President. “My goal for the students at Bloomfield College is to not have their future decided by their past.”
