Welcome to Bloomfield College and the Division of Student Affairs. We are excited and committed to providing all the services and resources to ensure an unforgettable college experience. We pride ourselves in making every second of your time on campus a purposeful opportunity for academic; personal; social; leadership; and professional enrichment. Whether you are: spending time in one of the College’s fourteen diverse types of residential accommodations; engaging in an activity in the Center for Leadership and Engagement; participating in recreational events in the Gymnasium; utilizing the services and resources of the Wellness Center, the Center for Career Development, Food Services, Department of Public Safety, or the Division of Student Affairs believes that every encounter with our students is yet a new opportunity to surpass their expectations of college life. We look forward to establishing and renewing partnerships with students that will educate, motivate and transform their lives during their educational journey.

Vision Statement:

The Division of Student Affairs seeks to position itself as the catalyst to advance students’ holistic and successful integration into the heart of the campus, and their navigation through the multiple services and resources offered at Bloomfield College.

Mission of Student Affairs:

Student learning and personal development are the primary goals of undergraduate education. As Student Affairs professionals, we believe that fostering this learning and development is our primary mission and purpose. We are engaged in creating a seamless learning environment in which activities outside the classroom are integrated with the instruction-taking place in the classroom. We seek to strengthen partnerships with students, faculty, academic administrators and outside agencies to help students recognize their talents and use them to attain high levels of learning and personal development. Our objective is to graduate intellectually and socially competent individuals who will attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multicultural and global society. The Student Affairs Division is committed to enabling students, particularly those who have traditionally been excluded from higher education, to realize their intellectual and personal goals and write new successful life narratives.

Student Affairs Goal:

The Student Affairs Division has adopted the following overarching goal in concert with its mission:

To provide students with a holistic enriching undergraduate educational experience that integrates curricular and co-curricular learning, and promotes engagement opportunities for academic, social, personal, and professional development.

Statement of Shared Values:

We recognize that excellence in teaching and learning occurs best in an environment where each of us is free to express our ideas in ways that recognize and respect our differences. We are committed to celebrating the rich diversity of all members of the campus community and the town that surrounds it. Therefore, in an effort to attract and retain exceptional students, faculty, staff, administrators and trustees who will continue the rich history of the College, we actively support behaviors that are consistent with the core values shared by the Bloomfield College Community: Honesty in communication, Respect for person, property and work; and Commitment to achieving excellence.

Statement on Creating a Climate for Civility and Human Dignity

The mission of Bloomfield College is “to prepare students to attain academic, personal and professional excellence in a multiracial and global society.” It is fundamental to our mission to create an unbiased community and to oppose vigorously any form of racism, religious intolerance, sexism, ageism, homophobia, heterosexism, and discrimination against those with disabling conditions. As the College recognizes the presence of gays, lesbians and bisexuals as members of our community, we therefore affirm the legitimacy and right of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals to create and enrich their cultural experience on our campus.

Consistent with this belief, discrimination and/or harassment based upon sexual orientation are prohibited. These include, but are not limited to, the following acts, even if communicative in nature. Each of the following are prohibited and could result in charges that could lead to the full range of sanctions, including suspension or expulsion from the College, under the College Code of Student Conduct, (see the 2021 Bloomfield College Catalog).

1. Use of force against the person or property of any member of the College Community, or against the person or property of anyone on College premises, or the threat of such physical abuse.
2. Theft of, or intentional damage to, College property or property in the possession of, or owned by, any member of the College.
3. Harassment, which is statutorily defined by New Jersey law to mean, and here means, purposefully making or causing to be made a communication or communications anonymously or at extremely inconvenient hours, or in offensively coarse language, or in any other manner likely to cause annoyance or alarm, or subjecting or threatening to subject another to striking, kicking, shoving or other offensive touching, or engaging in any other course of conduct of repeatedly committed acts with purpose to alarm or seriously annoy any other person.
4. Defamation, which is judicially defined to mean, and here means, the unprivileged oral or written publication of a false statement of fact that exposes the person about whom it is made to hatred, contempt or ridicule, or subjects the person to loss of the goodwill and confidence of others, or so harms that person’s reputation as to deter others from associating with her or him.

Faculty believing themselves to be victims of these behaviors should contact the Dean of Academic Affairs. All other persons should contact the Affirmative Action Officer.
