This course introduces the teaching profession. It includes the study of American schools as vehicles for social change. It considers the value of diversity, multiculturalism, equality, and active social policy. The structure of American schools, the roles of teacher, and the challenges that schools face are considered. A field component is required.

Successful completion of EDC 200/201 with a grade of C or better is required for entrance into the education major.
