About Margins

The Writing from the Margins Literary Studies Institute is a public program created by Bloomfield College's Division of the Humanities. The Institute brings together an array of contemporary writers who engage themes of marginalization and under-representation of diverse voices in literature. Through an exciting line-up of writing workshops, panel discussions, and readings, Writing from the Margins connects writers and readers in a dynamic exploration of the power and potential of literature representing the diversity of human experience.

  • Literary workshops and discussions led by distinguished writers and scholars
  • Keynote address by Natasha Trethewey (United States Poet Laureate, 2012-2014)
  • Activities for high schoolers, college students, and lifelong learners
  • Community readings
  • Free and open to the public
