Internships enable students to gain valuable career related experience in their chosen fields at a pre-professional level. We are eager to learn about what you have to offer and can assist you in developing a successful internship program. The Center for Career Development will work closely with you and the students throughout this process.
Bloomfield College offers academic internships for credit, as well a not for credit program through the Center for Career Development, the BEST S.I.T.E. Internship Program.
The Center for Career Development will post internship opportunities which comply with the definition and criteria set National Association of Colleges and Employers, NACE.
The experience must be an extension of the classroom: a learning experience that provides for applying the knowledge gained in the classroom.
It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or be the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.
The skills or knowledge learned must be transferable to other employment settings.
The experience has a defined beginning and end, and a job description with desired qualifications.
There are clearly defined learning objectives/goals related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework.
There is supervision by a professional with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the field of the experience.
There is routine feedback by the experienced supervisor.
There are resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the host employer that support learning objectives/goals.

Plan to Conduct an Information Session or Participate in an On-Campus Career Panel
Employers can schedule an information session or information table about a company, program or career field. The Employer Career Resource Network
A great way to connect with students and to educate them about your industry, company, or career field is to conduct a workshop on a professional development topic such as: "What employers look for in employees", resume writing, phone interviewing, completing on-line job applications, interviewing, networking, leadership styles, managing people, transitioning to the world of work.” We are open to topics! Please call to discuss your ideas.
Employers also serve as mentors, give class presentations on course work being studied, and have worked with us to create externship opportunities.
Three times a year, in September, January and April, the Center for Career Development sponsors Career Fairs to provide employers with the opportunity to meet our students and to recruit for full time, part-time, volunteer and summer employment, as well as internships. Space is limited. Please register early.
