Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. A nurse combines the disciplines of natural science and technology with people skills like communication, problem solving, teaching, and compassion. Nurses touch people’s lives at a time when they need help.

Christine started leaving her personal touch on Bloomfield College’s Nursing Program when she decided on a career change and came back to college for a second degree. She started her education at St. Bonaventure University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree before attending various local community colleges, excelling in nursing pre-requisite courses. She was attracted to Bloomfield College by the small class and lab sizes which allow her to work closely with professors, the opportunity to learn about other cultures and the inviting campus setting and architecture. Finally, the close proximity to her home made for an easy transition and decision!

Christine

Christine decided that she wanted a career that was rewarding and wanted to be content with her choices when she looked back on her educational decisions. At BC, we are sure that when Christine looks in the mirror she can be proud of herself, her hard work, and her passion for giving back to the community as she takes the final steps toward becoming a Registered Nurse.

Christine possesses an internal intensity to strive for what she wants in life and the work ethic to make it happen. How do you define dedication? Christine defines it by having the courage to come to college for a second degree while planning a wedding and working part-time.

You can catch Christine in the nursing labs, conducting campus tours as a Student Ambassador, delivering a speech about her experiences to prospective students, and always offering a helping hand to the campus community!

Q&A Time with Christine

Age:

29

Hometown:

I grew up in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, but just over a year ago I moved to Wallington, NJ.

GPA:
3.4
Favorite TV Show:

House

Favorite Movie:
A Christmas Story
One interesting fact that people don’t know about you:

I’m very handy around the house. My husband says I’m the female version of Bob Villa.

If you could meet one person who would it be and why?:

Maya Angelou, because she has such wisdom and eloquence when she speaks about the world.

Favorite Class at BC and why?:

Nursing Interventions, because it blends theory with nursing skill.

Why did you transfer to Bloomfield College?:

When I decided to transfer into a Nursing Program, the application process was my first experience with many of the schools that I applied to. The admission staff at Bloomfield did not treat me like a number. I was accepted during an Instant Decision Night. Some other schools took months to respond to my application, but by then I had done my research on Bloomfield College and had fallen in love with the school!

Favorite Clinical Rotation:

The OR was my favorite rotation. I followed a woman before and during her surgery. It was amazing to actually be in the operating room watching a major procedure being done and seeing the symphony of the surgical team working together.

Best advice for an incoming transfer student:

Give school as much time and effort as you would to a high paying, full-time job. The commitment requires a lot of time and energy, but be sure to give at least a few hours a week to yourself, your family, or your friends.
