Placement Testing

Welcome and Congratulations!

You have decided to continue your education and have been accepted into Bloomfield College. This is a big step in developing yourself as a knowledgeable citizen of an increasingly global world and in furthering your career options.

Placement tests are used to determine the skill levels of entering students in Math and Writing and to help us place students in the correct courses to best meet their academic goals.

These placement tests are very important because they will help determine how you start your college career. You cannot “pass” or “fail” the placement tests, but giving these tests your utmost effort and attention will help you begin your college career on a positive note.

It is essential that you take the placement test yourself to ensure you are placed into the most appropriate course for your skill level.

You have been emailed the deadline to complete your placement tests. Please check or contact admission@bloomfield.edu if you do not remember your placement deadline.

The Math Placement

You will have one hour to take the math placement test. You must finish the test in one seating. Your username and password have been emailed to you.

If you do not remember your username and password, or have difficulty logging-in, please contact: collegesuccess@mccanntesting.com

The access key is: MATH

The access key must be entered in all capitalized letters. If you require accommodations through the Office of Students with Disabilities, you will be given a different access key. If you require accommodations, please contact: margaret_adams@bloomfield.edu.

The Writing Placement Test

The writing placement test is untimed and can be completed over multiple days*.  If you would like to complete the writing placement test in one seating, the test should not take longer than 2 hours.

*Please note: students that take the exam onsite at Bloomfield College will be given a 2 hour time frame. If you require accommodations, please contact: margaret_adams@bloomfield.edu.

The Writing Placement Test has three parts:

1.     Reading a series of short news articles about a topic.

2.     Writing a 2-3 page argumentative essay based on the readings.

3.     Writing a self-reflective essay in which you think about your reading and writing habits and recommend and explain the course you think you should be in.

You may seek outside help for this essay, but ultimately the ideas and writing must be your own. The point of this placement test is to determine what class will best serve your needs. If the essay you send in does not reflect your actual writing abilities, then you will struggle in your writing class.

Take Writing Placement Test

After you write these essays, you must email them to Writing_Placement@bloomfield.edu. In the email, please include your name, student ID number, date of birth, and address. The student ID number can be found on your admissions and financial aid letters.

You should complete this test at least one week before you come to register.

Cannot complete this assignment electronically?

Bloomfield College has several on-campus opportunities to take the placement test. However, at these events, you will only have two hours to complete the writing placement test. Submit the following form below only if you are interested in on-campus placement testing.
