Transfer Requirements

Bloomfield College accepts credit for transfer from institutions approved by the American Council of Education and listed in Accredited Institution of Post-secondary Education. These courses must be similar in nature or content to those offered by Bloomfield College. Any question concerning the evaluation of these courses are referred to the appropriate division chairperson for review and/or acceptance.

Students from institutions not accredited by the above agencies will receive credit upon recommendation of the appropriate division chairperson and completion of six courses at Bloomfield College with a cumulative index of 2.0 or better. Please contact the Office of Admission with any questions. All candidates are encouraged to visit the College for a personal interview and tour of the campus.

To be considered for admission to Bloomfield College as a transfer student from another institution, candidates must submit the following information to the Office of Admission:

An application for admission, accompanied by an application fee of $40, payable to Bloomfield College.
An official transcript from each college or university previously attended. Minimum 2.0 GPA required.
Transfer applicants who have completed fewer than 15 college credits must also submit a copy of their high school transcript and SAT-I or ACT scores in addition to their college transcript(s).

Transcripts of prior collegiate work are evaluated by the Office of the Registrar. In general, only courses at the 100 or higher college level, for which a grade of C (or its equivalent), was earned will be considered for transfer credit. Remedial courses cannot be transferred and do not count towards the 15 credit transfer minimum. Transfer applicants who have not achieved a grade of C or better in College Algebra and College English will be required to take a placement test in one or both of these subjects.

Direct Transfer Program
Candidates with A.A. or A.S. degrees from regionally accredited community or junior colleges will receive a minimum of 61 semester-hour credits for the curriculum completed. This program presupposes that a candidate has received the A.A. or A.S. degree with a cumulative average of 2.0 or better. Such students will, therefore, receive full junior standing. Students who have not received A.A. or A.S. degrees will be considered on an individual basis. It should be noted that because of program requirements and course cycling, the College cannot guarantee that those who enter with junior standing will complete degree requirements in two years.

NJTransfer is a state-wide transfer articulation system that provides web-based assistance when transferring from New Jersey county/community colleges to New Jersey four-year colleges. You can also use the NJ Transfer Web site as a planning tool when selecting courses for your program of study. Please contact the Office of the Registrar if you wish to appeal a decision that you believe is not consistent with the New Jersey Transfer initiative. Articulation Agreements
Articulation agreements are formal contracts between Bloomfield College and other institutions. These agreements ensure that, if you successfully follow a listed program of study, you should be able to transfer with full junior status. Students should contact the transfer counselor for updated information and a list of current agreements.
