About the Program
Political science is the study of government, its institutions and the delivery of public service. It is a key major for those wishing to work in politics, public affairs, government, homeland security or the nonprofit sector. Core courses include American politics, comparative political systems, American foreign policy, and modern political ideologies. You will choose one of four distinct concentrations:
General Political Science
What you'll study - Political ideology, U.S. foreign policy, comparative political systems, methods of social research
Career Paths - Public service on the local, state or federal level
Human Services Studies
What you'll study - Nonprofit management, psychology, sociology, U.S. politics, local/state government, public administration
Career Paths - Public service on the local, state or federal level
Public Administration
What you'll study - Public administration, public economics and finance, organizational behavior
Career Paths - Public service on the local, state or federal level
Public Policy
What you'll study - Core political science curriculum along with courses in American constitutional law, comparative political systems, political thought and ideology, U.S. foreign policy

General Political Science Concentration (Required)
In addition to the Common Core
and required courses, a student will
take six additional courses in Political
Science or in related disciplines chosen
in conjunction with an Advisor.
At least two of these courses must
be at the 300 level.
Public Administration Concentration (Required)
In addition to the Common Core
courses, a student in the Public
Administration concentration
will take the following five (5)
required courses:
Public Administration Concentration: Group I (Any 3)
In addition to the Common Core
and required courses, a student
will take six additional courses in
Political Science or in related
disciplines chosen in conjunction
with an Advisor.
Public Administration Concentration: Group II (Any 3)
In addition to the Common Core
and required courses, a student
will take six additional courses in
Political Science or in related
disciplines chosen in conjunction
with an Advisor.
Public Policy Concentration (Required)
In addition to the Common Core
courses, a student in the Public
Policy concentration will take the
above eight (8) required course.
In addition to the Common Core and
required courses, a student will take
three additional courses in Political
Science or in related disciplines chosen
in conjunction with an Advisor.
At least two of these courses must
be at the 300 level.
