Graduate Certificate in Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Education

About the Program: 

The Post Baccalaureate Certificate program is offered for individuals who possess a bachelor’s degree and wish to obtain teaching certification.  The program is open to students with undergraduate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences.  Applicants are advised that additional course work may be required to meet New Jersey certification standards. 

The following Initial Certifications in Teacher Education are offered:

  • Preschool through Grade 3 (P-3)
  • Elementary (K-6)
  • Upper Elementary with Subject Matter Specialization (5-8 with dual certification in K-6)
  • Secondary (9-12)

The following Endorsements are offered for those candidates who already possess a CEAS or a STANDARD teaching certificate:

  • Preschool through Grade 3 (P-3)
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement TOSD (K-12)

Bloomfield College also provides a New Jersey Department of Education approved Alternate Route program for candidates to fulfill their PreK-3 coursework requirements.

Admission Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 at an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) liberal arts credits successfully completed for Preschool through Third grade and Elementary programs, minimum of fifteen (15) credits in the subject area that candidates intend to be certified in for upper elementary with subject matter specification program, or minimum of a minimum of thirty (30) credits in a coherent sequence in the subject field in the intended certification.
  • Passing scores on the Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators Test series (Must pass all three areas: Reading 156, Writing 162, & Math 150) or minimum required scores on the SAT or ACT or GRE as set by the New Jersey Department of Education (for Initial Certificaiton).

The Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program requires students to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and earn a grade of C or better in all education courses.

Notes and Instructions: 
P-3 endorsement applicants must hold a Certificate of Eligibility to teach grades K-6.
Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement
Notes and Instructions: 
Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) endorsement applicants must hold any New Jersey Instructional Teaching certificate.
Alternate Route P-3
Notes and Instructions: 
Alternate Route students must hold a Certificate of Eligibility to teach grades P-3 and provide a letter from their school district verifying employment.
