This course introduces students to the field of special education including the history; federal and state laws; definitions, characteristics and causes of various disabilities; the eligibility process; and array of programs and services. Additionally, it explores current trends, issues and special educator's role in collaboration with other educators and families.
 
This course requires a field experience. Successful completion of EDC 200/201 with a grade of C or better is required for entrance into the education major.
