What does the graduating student need to do in order to participate in Commencement?

How does the graduating student order regalia (cap and gown)?
Academic regalia (cap, gown) is required and the student must order online by Friday, March 31, 2017 through their MyBloomfield Portal account (see above).
How many guests can each graduating student invite to Commencement? Are admission tickets required?
Each graduating student can invite up to five (5) guests and will receive five (5) admission wristbands. Any person occupying a seat must wear an admission wristband. Admission wristbands will not be required for children under 2 years of age but the child must sit on the lap of their parent or guardian. Please note that strollers and carriers are not allowed under the Commencement tent for safety purposes. Balloons and view-obstructing signs are also not allowed.
Guests without admission wristbands are welcome to view the ceremony in Van Fossan Theatre. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:30 a.m. Admission to the Theatre will be capped when we reach maximum capacity for the space.
Admission wristbands, as well as caps and gowns, will be available for pick up at the College Bookstore Grad Fair on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Lost or stolen wristbands will not be replaced.
Are special accommodations available for guests in wheelchairs?
Reserved seating for guests in wheelchairs will be available under the main tent. Validated admission wristbands are required. Due to space limitations, the reserved seating area is restricted to the guest in the wheelchair and one accompanying guest. Additional members of graduating student’s party should sit in the general seating area. Graduating students requiring seating for guests in wheelchairs must indicate same on their Application to Participate in Commencement. Please note that any guest requesting wheelchair seating must arrive in a wheelchair in order to be admitted to reserved seating as a chair will not be provided.
Will the ceremony be streamed live on the web?
Yes, the live link will appear thirty minutes prior to the ceremony at: www.bloomfield.edu/academics/commencement/live-stream.
When and where is the Commencement ceremony?
The ceremony will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. on the College’s Quadrangle (rain or shine).
When should I arrive for the Commencement ceremony?
Guest seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:30 a.m.
What is the length of the Commencement ceremony?
Approximately two (2) hours.
Where can I park?
Parking is available in the College’s main lot on Liberty Street and the lot on Oakland Avenue. A limited number of handicapped parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A handicapped hangtag or license plate is required. Passengers with disabilities may be dropped off in front of the College Quadrangle on Liberty Street. Please note that Liberty Street is closed to traffic by 9:00 a.m.
Will I be able to purchase ceremony photos?
Island Photography has been hired to capture this special moment. Please refrain from taking photographs during the ceremony from anywhere other than your seat in order to avoid obstructing the view of others. Each graduate will be professionally photographed before receiving their degree and while they are receiving their degree on stage. Graduates will receive proofs via email and regular mail from Island Photography. The graduate can also receive a direct link to the photos by registering through the Island Photography website at http://orders.islandphoto.com/apps/registergraduates.aspx. The graduate may register several email addresses to allow all family and friends to receive a direct link to the photos. Images are posted within 72 hours of the ceremony. All inquiries should be made to Island Photography at 800-869-0908. Purchase is optional.
Commencement events will also be filmed. The Bloomfield College Media Center (Library, lower level) will produce DVDs of the Nurses’ Pinning, Baccalaureate and Commencement. These may be purchased one week after graduation for $7.00 per event. Graduates and their families can simply go to the Media Center with payment and pick up a DVD. How does a graduating student get their diploma if they are not able to attend Commencement?
If a graduating student is not able to attend Commencement, diplomas will be available for pick up from the Registrar's Office (229 Liberty Street) starting Monday, May 22, 2017. If the graduating student would like their diploma mailed, they should contact the Registrar's Office at 973-748-9000, ext. 1221.
