Humanities

Do you have a passion for words and ideas? Does the drama of history or the power of great writing excite you? Does the role of religion in personal and public life today capture your imagination?

These are just a few of the topics you can choose to study as a major in the Humanities division at Bloomfield College. Here you will broaden your intellectual horizons and discover how to pursue your intellectual interests while also developing the fundamental skills you’ll need in any career. You will learn to think clearly, analyze complex issues, make reasoned judgments, and express your ideas effectively - skills you will need whether your life’s work is writing, journalism, law, teaching or sales.

How it all adds up
The average starting salary offered to history majors who graduated in 2005–06 was $33,071, a 4.2 percent increase over the previous year.

Broadcasting job prospects will be best for applicants with a broadcast journalism degree and internship or college radio station experience.

Projected average annual starting salaries for first-year law associates at small firms (up to 10 attorneys) range from $43,500 to $67,500.

Capstones
The capstone course is the culmination of a humanities student’s academic experience at Bloomfield College. Working closely with a professor and fellow students, you will choose a topic related to your major, develop it into a research paper, literary work or broadcast journalism project and then present it to the college community. The capstone course fosters hard work, collaboration and the ability to bring a major project to successful completion, all skills that will serve you well in the workplace and in life.

Honors Program
The Honors Program is designed for students who want a challenging interdisciplinary college experience. The program provides a unique opportunity for intellectual development both in and out of the classroom. For information on the Honors Program, please call the Office of Enrollment Management and Admission and make an appointment with an admission counselor or with the Director of the Honors Program.

The Honors Program is open to qualified students in ALL majors.
