Criminal Justice - Internships and Careers

We have strong working relationships with criminal justice agencies throughout the region. Students are encouraged to get hands-on experience in the field by spending a semester as an intern at one of these agencies. As an intern, you will make the connections you need to help you with your future career.

Our students regularly obtain internships with:

  • Police Departments
  • Corrections Facilities
  • Probation Departments
  • County Courts
  • Law firms
  • Private detective agencies
  • Division of Youth and Family Services
  • Social Service Agencies

A degree in sociology provides the framework for understanding complex societal issues. This major provides a valuable foundation for many community-oriented careers, including human services, teaching, law and politics. As a sociology major, you will choose one of three concentrations:

Criminal Justice
What you'll study - Methods of social research, criminology, juvenile delinquency, deviance and social control
Career Paths - Law enforcement, law, government agencies, private investigation
General Sociology
What you'll study - Social science theories and philosophies, including sociology of religion, gender and race
Career Paths - Social work, teaching, law, politics, market research, public relations
Human Services Studies
What you'll study - Nonprofit management, psychology, sociology, methods of social research, statistics
Career Paths - Nonprofit management, delivery of social services
