Nursing

Nursing is a dynamic profession that requires intelligence, hard work and critical thinking skills. However, it is often the simple desire to care for people that leads one to choose a nursing career.

Should you decide to enter the nursing profession or further your education beyond your current R.N. license, you will have a wide variety of career options to choose from. Perhaps you will enter a fast-paced specialty, such as ER or intensive-care nursing. Perhaps the more predictable nature of a doctor’s office appeals to you. You might choose to work with paraplegics, cardiac patients or newborns or possibly pursue a graduate degree with the goal of being an educator.

Nursing - Bachelor of Science
Bloomfield College’s Presbyterian Division of Nursing was founded on the belief that a sound liberal arts background is required for a successful nursing career. A diverse education in the arts, sciences and humanities helps to develop critical thinking abilities, interpersonal skills and an appreciation for the human condition, attributes that can transform a competent nurse into a gifted one.

In order to provide this broad base of knowledge, the nursing program includes a balance of liberal arts courses, professional studies and handson practical experience. It will prepare you well for your chosen career and provide a worthy complement to your desire and dedication.

Traditional Track
This program consists of four years of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. No prior college credits are required. The curriculum is a prescribed sequence of courses based on the arts, sciences, humanities and professional studies.

Registered Nurse Track
This program is for registered nurses who are graduates of associate degree or diploma programs and who wish to obtain a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. Advanced placement is awarded based on transfer of college credits and prior nursing courses.

How it all adds up
The nursing field is projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all occupations through 2014.

Rapid job growth is expected in same-day surgery centers and outpatient facilities.

According to recent government data, median annual earnings of registered nurses were more than $52,000.

New Jersey Accreditation
The nursing program is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the New Jersey State
Board of Nursing.

Presbyterian Division of Nursing
Our mission is to engage students in a collaborative educational experience, prepare caring, reflective professional nurses, positively influence and shape health-care delivery and provide a
