The Division of Humanities at Bloomfield College will invite patrons to experience art from all corners of the globe this holiday season, as the academic area unveiled the exhibit "Urban Art Meets Global Art" at the institution's Scott H. Kaplan '02 Art Gallery Nov. 18.

The exhibit, which will be on display through Jan. 15, is part of two pilot courses the division has offered for the fall 2015 semester titled “Urban Art” and “Art as Global Communication”, which are part of a new section of classes called “Arts and Culture”.

“The idea of 'Arts & Culture' is to allow students to learn about how the arts are a part of all aspects of life,” said humanities chairperson Dr. Angela Conrad. “We want students to see the arts not as part of the past, but as a living and changing cultural phenomenon. This experience will allow them to interact with both the artists and their work in a unique and engaging manner while helping to fulfill our College’s mission.”

Bloomfield students curated and catalogued the exhibit as part of the courses, which features work from artists including Alonsa Guevara, Gabriela Handal, Nicholas Holiber, Ayman Ismail, Daniela Izaguirre, Esteban Ocampo, Robert Plater, George Rue and Moses Tuki.

“Our students have worked extremely hard to curate the work the work of these artists, and I am very proud of what they have accomplished,” said professor Roberto Osti. “We encourage the members of the campus community to join our students in these classes and enjoy the different types of art we will have on display.”

Admission to the gallery exhibit is free of charge. To learn more about Bloomfield’s Division of Humanities, visit bloomfield.edu/academics/humanities.
