Bloomfield College Student to Intern with Disney

Bloomfield College student Elizabeth Manoes ’18 is Disney’s newest intern. Manoes, an early childhood/special education major at the College, will begin her tenure with Disney as a lifeguard on May 15, 2017.

The seven-month Disney College Program will allow Manoes to network with leaders, take part in personal and career development classes, and build transferable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, guest service, and effective communication.

Acceptance into the Program was no easy feat. After formally submitting her application and resume, Manoes heard back immediately, and was invited to the webinar portion of the interview process. She then had a phone interview where they discussed her previous work experience and her problem solving skills.

“Elizabeth’s time and experiences here at Bloomfield College have prepared her for this wonderful opportunity,” said Celeste Walden-Kelley, the STAR Program Office Manager and Program Mentor. “I am proud to know that she will be representing Bloomfield College at Disney.”

As a Disney College Program participant, Manoes will gain valuable, on-the-job experience working in Disney’s parks and resorts. Each role offered through the Disney College Program is a paid internship and provides a unique and diverse learning and working experience.

Manoes is really looking forward to meeting and living with people from all over the country and world in company-sponsored housing. The New Jersey native has already begun chatting with her future roommates on Facebook who hail from Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.

Since high school, Manoes has been heavily involved in co-curricular activities and athletics. While a student at Keansburg High School in Monmouth County, she was on the bowling, softball, and tennis teams as well as a member of multiple clubs. Once enrolling at Bloomfield College, Manoes continued her involvement as a student ambassador, or Storyteller, for the Office of Admission, and working as a student employee for the student center, the Bloomfield Public Library, and a daycare center close to campus. Manoes also acts as a mentor to freshmen and staffs the front desk of the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement (CSLE).

Manoes, who recently learned she was nominated and selected to be part of the Portraits of Excellence Program at the College, will return from Disney in January, just in time to begin her final semester and student teaching at Keansburg Elementary School.

The Portraits of Excellence Program highlights students' stories of achievements, including academic, leadership, employment and internships, community service, and volunteerism.

Recognition is based on distinguished service/volunteerism, major involvement in leadership, distinguished intellectual activity, or direct participation in activities reflective of the College's Mission.

Manoes will receive her degree in May of 2018.

“My time at Bloomfield College went by so fast. As a first generation college student, I feel very accomplished and validated,” expressed Manoes.
