Bloomfield College Hosts Second Annual STEM Career Carnival
On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, Bloomfield College held its second annual STEM Career Carnival alongside the Community Service Experience event in an effort to increase students’ exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) majors and careers.
During the event, students were given the opportunity to register for the Focus 2 Career Assessment and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) through the Center for Career Development.
The community service activities surrounded causes including World Water Day and Autism Awareness. In addition, guests wrote thank-you and appreciation letters to our troops overseas and created bookmarks, which were donated to the campus library.
The event was catered to all current students as well as incoming accepted Fall 2017 students. #AcceptedBCBears enjoyed lunch, snacks, and mingled with current students as they partook in two hours of community service activities and the STEM Career Carnival. Additionally, high school students from the Passaic County Technical Institute attended.
Key representatives from many of the College’s departments and programs set up information tables in Talbott Hall. Natural Science and Mathematics; Computer Science; the Center for Career Development; the Wellness Center; the Center for Innovation in Teaching to Enhance Learning (CITEL); the McNair Program; the Educational Oppotunity Fund (EOF) Office; the Office for Students with Disabilities; Personal Counseling; the SSS-Star Program; the Office of Admission; the Marketing department; the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement; and the Emerging Leaders in STEM (ELS) Program were all in attendance.
Carnival style food was provided by Gourmet Dining.
The day was funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Predominantly Black Institutions Competitive Grant Program.
Approximately 150 students attended the event.
